Born in Hanoi in 1979, Phan Thu Trang has been winning awards as a child artist from the age of five. She is a member of the Young Painter Association of Vietnam. A graduate from Hanoi Theatre and Cinema University, she is an emerging young artist whose mind has been engraved with images of the Northern villages of Vietnam. She brings these vivid memories of the villagers and their lives alive in her paintings.

Trang paints landscapes in thick textural impasto with bright colours of red, orange, yellow, and blue. Her strokes are strong but the paintings are very simplistic and have a very calming effect. The paintings show her deep appreciation of nature’s blessing and beauty. Trang’s decorative works are characteristically Vietnamese. Making the genre of landscape her own, Trang simplifies individual elements to their bare essentials. With a limited palette, the artist employs texture to define her subjects. Smooth areas of bright monotone contrast with the lush, painterly impasto used to define tree leaves. A vibrant vaulted canopy of trees dominates spindly trunks.
