Jaya Charan’s artistic practice is rooted in the landscapes, people and cultural life of Rajasthan and India. Working across oils, acrylics, watercolour, ink and digital media, she draws inspiration from markets, old walls, everyday encounters and the natural world. Her interest in Kathak dance also informs her understanding of movement and rhythm, offering a connection between physical gesture and the act of painting.
Alongside her interest in traditional Indian craft, she is drawn to objects that carry histories and reveal traces of the people and places connected to them. These varied influences create a practice that moves between observation, memory, culture and material expression.
